This page contains links to resources available to woodturners, including articles by CVW members, club mentors, and links to other woodturning sites that might be of interest to you.
There is a LOT of information here, all of which has been reviewed and recommended. There are a lot of folks on the internet who are just plain dangerous but there are also a lot of excellent teachers. So where and how do you get started? First, please review the Safety information below recommendation for. Then come to a Skill Center session to meet fellow woodturners and get hands-on instruction to get you one your way.
Our librarian, Jeff Corwin, has pulled together a succinct list of resources for learning to turn from which all woodturners can gain something.
Also check out the videos using the links above. There is a separate page for Members Only with a preferred vendors list with Member discounts here.

Maintenance
- Lathe Paint: E & M Auto Paint and Supply can mix the color of your lathe when you bring a piece that has a decent original color. The paint is a fast dry acrylic enamel and these numbers are in their computer so no matter which of their locations. Cost is $17+ /can. The following are colors of my lathes;
- Powermatics- Number 668425 which is Med. Yellow and color a 1978 Volvo.( we used this in the restoration of the first 3520b in 2010)
- Oneway- Number 852916
- Jet -Number 845662
- CBN Wheels: Woodturning Wonders recommends their Slick Stick Product on the wheels. “The rule of thumb is if it sparks a lot when grinding it is softer steel and should be avoided. Even M2 steel like Sorby will load up a higher grit wheel in about 6 months. No carbide. Tool steels in general. The harder the better. M-42 (like Carter and Son) Powdered Metal (like Thompson) are great.”
